CECs earned through ACSM (ACSM online courses, ACSM events and webinars) after February 22, 2025 will automatically be added to your account. CECs earned prior to February 22, 2025 may need to be manually reported. Check your CEC Dashboard to confirm!

Effective January 1, 2023, ACSM Certified Professionals may earn up to 8 CECs per year (total of 24 CEC for the 3-year recertification cycle) by volunteering and contributing to an ACSM Committee and/or working group.
Support documentation must include participation details such as start-end dates of term/service, responsibilities, and confirmation from the Chair (or point person) of the committee. You can make a difference and provide leadership for ACSM by serving in one of the following capacities:
NOTE: ACSM Certified Professionals must report years of service for the above committee’s that fall within the current recertification reporting cycle. For example if only the first year of a three year committee appointment occurs within a reporting cycle, report only one year of service, not all three years (1 year of service on 1 committee = 8 CECs; 3 years of service on 1 committee = 24 CECs).
Effective January 1, 2025, ACSM will allow certified professionals to earn and report a maximum of 5 CECs per year when completing CPR, AED, and/or First Aid certifications. Only CPR/AED/First Aid courses completed within the recertification window can be applied.
Certified professionals holding multiple certifications are required to pay a separate recertification fee for each certification they wish to renew. The MyACSM portal will only apply CECs earned during the applicable certification cycle.
To uphold the highest standards of professional competency and continuing education, the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) conducts audits on ten percent (10%) of all recertification submissions for each certification type. Individuals selected for audit are required to submit documentation verifying all Continuing Education Credits (CECs) to the ACSM National Office within thirty (30) days of receiving notification. Failure to provide the required documentation within the specified timeframe will result in the certification being designated as inactive.
If the recertification is complete and the appropriate number of CECs are self-reported, the credential is valid until the next recertification due date.
If the submission of CECs is determined to be insufficient, an appropriate amount of time will be allowed for the professional to earn additional, acceptable CECs.
ACSM audits a percentage of randomly selected recertification/renewal forms each year. If audited, you will need to provide documentation of your CECs to the ACSM National Office within 30 days. If you are unable to do so, your certification will be considered “inactive” and you will have one year to complete the recertification process by providing the documentation or by obtaining new CECs.
The CCRB Continuing Professional Education Subcommittee reviews the validity of all audit paperwork. If your paperwork is complete and you’ve earned the appropriate number of CECs, you will be notified that your credential is valid until your next recertification due date. If after you submit your documentation the subcommittee determines that some of your CECs are not applicable, you will be given an appropriate amount of time to earn additional replacement CECs.
